Fariya Yesmin

Postdoctoral Researcher

Fariya is a Post-Doctoral Researcher under the project since September 2023. She holds a PhD degree in Sociology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi (2023), an MPhil in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi (2017), a Masters' degree in Sociology from Ambedkar University Delhi (2014) and a B.A (Hons) Sociology degree from the University of Delhi (2012).

Fariya is trained in the discipline of Sociology and Social Anthropology and her research interest are largely centered around issues of citizenship, documents, law/legality in India and migration, state and borders in South Asia.

Her doctoral work is based on courtroom ethnography of the Foreigners' Tribunals in the Indian state of Assam.  Fariya is interested in the use of ethnographic method to understand issues that lie at interstices of law and society.
